Based on a true story, the film recounts the struggle of an international journalist, Marianne Pearl (Angelina Jolie), on coping with the loss of her husband, Daniel Pearl (Dan Futterman), South Asia bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal.
On January 23, 2002, he was kidnapped and subsequently murdered by Islamic fundamentalists in Karachi, Pakistan. Marianne, who was then heavily pregnant, pulled herself to write a memoir about her husband, hoping to introduce his future son to the father he would never meet.
